*“Ashram”*

After sitting inside the temple, I looked at the Mother (Goddess), and I don’t know why, but a strange feeling began rising within me. I had a gold ring on my finger, and looking at it, my mind kept saying, “Take it off and place it at the Mother’s feet.” I would remove it, then wear it again. This went on for a while.

In the meantime, one of my children placed some money in my hand. He had understood that I was going to leave the ring there. So I offered that money instead, and we all got up and came out. I couldn’t understand why it happened. Again and again, I felt like removing that ring.

After stepping out of the temple, happily, we went to see the idol of Hanumanji. As we walked ahead, we saw another Hanuman temple below the idol. We sat down to take off our shoes before going inside. It was the month of December and very cold. I sat down right on the temple floor to remove my shoes.

Just then, my eyes fell on an elderly Baba sitting in front of me. He was looking at me very intently. I smiled at him. He stared deeply into my eyes, got up, came near me and said,

“You are from Himachal… from Kangra.”

He did not ask, “Where are you from?” He directly said, “Himachal, Kangra.”

I replied, “Yes, I am from Kangra. How do you know me?”

I was shocked, but my question didn’t affect him at all. As soon as he heard that I was from Kangra, he held my hand and said,

“It took you so many days to come!”

He held my hand tightly and dragged me inside the temple. In that moment, I could not understand what was happening, and I kept laughing, thinking, “He has probably mistaken me for someone else.” Because he was not listening to me at all; he was just speaking continuously.

He took both me and the son whose wedding we had come for, straight inside and stood us before Hanumanji’s idol. Baba looked excited and overjoyed, saying again and again,

“What should I give you? What should I give you?”

He began searching for something. Then, from behind a picture of God kept in a corner, he took out a packet of kumkum and chickpea prasad and gave it to us. He said,

“You came after so many days. Today I am very happy. What should I give you?”

Seeing his emotions, it felt as if Hanumanji was speaking through him. How else could he have directly said that I was from Kangra? I had come to that temple for the first time, and I was seeing him for the first time.

Then I took some money from my pocket and placed it at the feet of the deity. Immediately, Baba picked it up and put it back in my hand and said,

“Should I take money from you now?”

I said, “No, it is my wish. Please offer it to God on my behalf.”

He said, “No. Keep this with you. Every night, some dogs come and sleep outside your house near the temple. Feed them.”

This was completely true. I was shocked—how did he know that dogs come at night to our house?

He put the money back into my pocket again. Then he started searching for something and said,

“Look… this book…”

It was Ramcharitmanas. Flipping through the pages, he said,

“I read this every day!”

Then from inside the book, he took out 700 rupees and gave it to me. There were many people waiting outside the temple, but he didn’t care. He just kept talking to us. He placed the money in my hand, and what he said next was the most shocking…

My hands and feet started trembling…
