Day 18 – Gangotri Darshan

Our lives have been blessed with Darshan, all the way from Gangotri to Gomukh. Gomukh is that place from where Ganga the liberator flows incessantly, for the welfare of the world. The pilgrimage does not end here though. Ahead of Gomukh is a very beautiful & ethereal place regarded as Heaven, called Tapovan. The soil of Tapovan is home to tremendous spiritual powers and scores of unseen sages living in isolation, engaged in deep penance. The meaning of Tapovan is, ‘the soil or land of penance’. It is that place where even an hour spent sitting in deep meditation with eyes closed, can lead to the fulfillment and realization of many births. While there are many such charming locations on earth, there are very few such beautiful places specially chosen by saints and sages for pursuing their penance and other spiritual practices. Such a place from where Mother Ganga – the liberator, flows incessantly for the sake of the world’s welfare, cannot be just another ordinary place.

Tapovan

Nandanvan Tapovan is a land covered by large fields of lush green grass and the wondrous diversity of nature. Its lush green grass fields are considered as the best amongst the grasslands situated on high altitudes. Tapovan, located at the foot of the Shiv Ling peak, is a seasonal home for many sadhus and sages who live in caves or small hermitages here. Over the last few years, Tapovan has also emerged as a very popular trekking destination and besides, people for far off places and distant lands come to Tapovan to see and experience its enchanting grass fields and the colorful flower gardens. Tapovan is located 6 kms from Gangotri, on the other side of the Gangotri glacier. The beautiful scenic view of all the nearby peaks, namely Shiv Ling, Bhagirathi, Kedartal, Thalay Sagar and Sudarshan, can be enjoyed from Tapovan. Tapovan serves as an ideal basecamp for trekking to some of the nearby mountains such as Satopanth, Kharchakund, Meru, Kalindikhal and Kedartaal. Taking the route by the side of the river Bhagirathi, trekkers can reach this destination from Gomukh, finally. In the Hindu religion, Tapovan is considered as the land or soil for penance and as can be inferred from its name, it is indeed a very apt, peaceful and delightful place for penance. The beauty of this serene land of Tapovan, its rocky surface, the peaceful atmosphere and sections of huge mountain peaks encircling this block, makes it one amongst the most dangerous places in the Garhwal region of the state of Uttarakhand. Thousands of tourists from all over the world come to Tapovan every year to experience the bliss of spiritual wisdom or for the purpose of trekking and adventure sports.

Mouni Baba’s cottage is also located in Tapovan. He lives here and communicates only through writing. This land is replete with unseen Yogis, spread in all directions. So supernatural is this place. If it is said that the Himalayas are home to scores of Yogis sitting in penance and many tales abound, people wonder about this aspect or tradition of the Yogis who are said to be meditating & performing austerities there in isolation. People who hear of this form their own perception or imagination about this oft spoken of phenomenon. I would like to say that Tapovan is that very place in the Himalayas, where Yogis engage in penance and merge into the Lord. Whether you call this place worldly or other worldly, you can find instances and examples of both these aspects here. One can have the Darshan of Shiv Ling Parvat too, from here.

Shiv Ling Peak

From among this range of mountain peaks in the Gangotri region, today I shall tell you of yet another charming snow capped peak called the Shiv Ling Peak. With a little bit of experience of trekking, one can view this peak from close quarters. This peak with an enchanting visage, is close to Gangotri glacier. The beauty of this peak has to be seen to be understood & appreciated. The mountaineers setting out on an expedition to this peak have to pass by the beautiful spots of Gomukh, Tapovan & Nandanvan. The Shiv Ling peak is one amongst the Gangotri group of mountains, shaped like a pyramid. The climb on this peak is very arduous and challenging. Owing to this, no expedition to this particular peak was successful until 1974. After the discovery of the Gangotri glacier in 1993, mountaineers tried to scale the Shiv Ling peak. Mountaineers have declared this peak to be very difficult to access. Upon looking at this peak, one can see that its upper portion on every side is like an upright standing rock upon which not even ice can remain. Only on the western slope, there are some portions upon which ice can be seen and it is possible to ascend to the peak only from its western flank.

There is no end to these enigmatic peaks and mountains that hold & conceal within them many an uncanny mystery and many an inexplicable riddle. The more we trek & move amidst them, the more the number of mysteries we come across. The terrain and the trails seem very daunting when you look at them but then, it is said that nothing is impossible if one holds determination & courage in the heart. When you go to such places, your company too should be very firm & strong. These Himalayas are home to many lakes, rivers and varieties of medicinal roots and herbs. The one who begins to love them becomes theirs verily. Having had the Darshan of such beautiful places we have now returned to Gangotri. There are no words to describe the bliss of that world settled in the lap of these mountains. The story of any pilgrimage provides one with a notional and imagined joy but One has to become an avid traveler sometimes, to experience the real joy of such trips. Having spent so many days in Gangotri, collecting bagfuls of memories and peace, we shall leave for Kedarnath tomorrow.

अठारहवाँ दिन—गंगोत्री दर्शन

गंगोत्री से गौमुख का दर्शन पाकर जीवन धन्य हुआ।ये वो स्थान है।जहाँ से मोक्षदायिनी गंगा संसार के कल्याण के लिए निरंतर बहती जा रही है।पर यात्रा यही पर खत्म नही होती।गौमुख से आगे सुंदर आलौकिक स्वर्ग कही जाने वाले जगह तपोवन है।तपोवन साधना की आलौकिक शक्तियों और वहाँ बैठे कई अदृश्य सतों की भूमि है।तपोवन का अर्थ ही तप की भूमि है,वो स्थान जहाँ इसांन अगर एक घण्टा भी आखं बंद कर बैठ जाऐ।तो जन्म जन्म सिद्ध हो जाऐ।पूरी धरती ऐसे कई सुंदर स्थानों से भरी पड़ी है।परंतु बहुत कम ऐसे स्थान हैं जिनकों ऋषि-मुनियों ने अपने साधना के लिए चुना।मोक्षदायिनी गंगा जहाँ से संसार के कल्याण के लिए बह रही है।वो स्थान साधारण तो हो भी नही सकता।

तपोवन

नदंनवन तपोवन हरे-भरे घास के मैदानों द्वारा प्राकृतिक रूप से विविधतापूर्ण क्षेत्र है,जो भारत में सबसे अच्छी ऊंचाई वाले घास के मैदान माने जाते हैं।शिवलिंग शिखर के तल पर, तपोवन गुफाओं, झोपड़ियों आदि में रहने वाले कई साधुओं के लिए एक मौसमी घर है।पिछले कुछ वर्षों में, तपोवन एक लोकप्रिय ट्रेकिंग गंतव्य के रूप में उभरा है और दूर-दूर के लोग तपोवन के मोहक घास के मैदानों को तथा रंग बिरंगी फूलों को देखने आते हैं।तपोवन गंगोत्री से 6 किमी की दूरी पर गंगोत्री ग्लेशियर के पार स्थित है। तपोवन से आसपास की चोटियों जैसे शिवलिंग,भागीरथी, केदारताल, थलय सागर, और सुदर्शन का सुन्दर नजारा दिखाई पड़ता है। यह कुछ चोटियों जैसे सतोपंथ खर्चाकुंड, कालिंदीखाल, मेरु, और केदारताल की ट्रैकिंग के लिए एक आधार शिविर के रूप में कार्य करता है। ट्रेकर्स भागीरथी नदी के बगल के मार्ग से होते हुए अंततः अपने गंतव्य गौमुख से पहुंच सकते हैं।तपोवन हिंदु धर्म में तपस्या की भूमी मानी जाती है और जैसा कि नाम से पता चलता है कि यह वास्तव में तपस्या के लिए उपयुक्त एक शांति एवं सुखमय भूमि है। तपोवन की इस एकांत जगह की सुंदरता चट्टानी भूमि, शांतिपूर्ण वातावरण, विशाल पर्वत चोटियों से घिरी धाराओं का छोटा सा खंड है जो इसे उत्तराखंड के गढ़वाल क्षेत्र में सबसे भयानक स्थलों में से एक है। हर साल तपोवन में दुनिया भर के हजारों पर्यटक, आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान की अनुभूति का आनंद लेने तथा साहसिक यात्रा और ट्रैकिंग के लिए आते हैं।तपोवन मे मौनी बाबा की कुटिया भी है जो कि आज वो वहाँ रहते हैं।बात करने के लिए वो लिख ही सकते हैं ।ये भूमि चारों तरफ से अदृश्य योगियों सेभरी पड़ी है।इतना औलोकिक है।ये जगह।अगर कहा जाये की हिमालय मे योगी बैठें रहते है।कई किस्से सुने जाते हैं कैसा होगा वो हिमालय जहाँ योगी तप करते हैं।हर कोई किस्से सुन कर कल्पना करता है ऐसे हिमालय की।तो मै कहना चाहूँगा ये ही वो जगह है जहाँ योगी तप करके ईश्वर मे विलीन हो जाते हैं। ये जगह सांसारिक कहें या आलौकिक दोनों का स्पष्ट उदाहरण है।यहाँ से शिवलिंग पर्वत के दर्शन भी होते हेै।

शिवलिंग पीक

इन पर्वत शिखरों की श्रृंखला में आज मै आपको एक और मनमोहक हिमशिखर ‘शिवलिंग पीक’ के बारे में बताता हूं। ट्रैकिंग का थोड़ा सा अनुभव होने के बाद हम इस शिखर को निकट से देख सकते हो। मनमोहक छवि वाली यह शिवलिंग पीक गंगोत्री ग्लेशियर के समीप है। शिवलिंग पीक का सुंदर दृश्य देखने से ही बनता है। इस शिखर के अभियान पर जाने वाले पर्वतारोही गोमुख से तपोवन और नंदनवन जैसे मनोरम स्थलों से होकर जाते हैं।शिवलिंग पीक गंगोत्री शिखर समूह का हिस्सा है।यह शिखर पिरामिड के समान दिखाई देता है।इस शिखर की चढ़ाई काफी दुर्गम है, इसीलिए 1974 तक इस शिखर का कोई अभियान सफल नहीं हुआ था। 1933 में गंगोत्री ग्लेशियर की खोज के बाद पर्वतारोहियों ने इस पर चढ़ते के प्रयास किये थे। पर्वतारोही दल ने इसे एक दुर्गम पीक बताया है।जब हम इसे देखते हैं तो पता चलता है कि इस शिखर का ऊपरी भाग हर ओर से खड़ी चट्टान के समान है, जहां बर्फ भी नहीं ठहरती। केवल पश्चिमी ढलान पर कुछ भाग ऐसा है, जहां बर्फ नजर आती है। इसी दिशा से शिखर पर चढ़ना संभव है।

आलौकिक रहस्य अनसुलझी पहेलियाँ सुंदरता,ये सब बातें अपने भीतर छुपाये इन पहाड़ो का कोई अंत नही है।जितना चलते जायेंगे उतने रहस्य बढ़ते जायेंगे।रास्ते कठिन लगते हैं।पर मन मे हौसला हो तो कुछ भी असंम्भव नही।ऐसी जगह जाते वक्त आपका साथ मजबूत होना चाहिए।कई ताल,कई नादियों,कई प्रकार की जड़ी बूटियों के घर हैं ये हिमालय जो इनसे प्रेम करने लगता है।वो फिर इनका ही हो जाता है।ऐसे सुंदर स्थानों का दर्शन पाकर हम गंगोत्री वापिस लौट आऐ।पहाड़ो के आंचल मे बसी उस दुनिया का आंनद शब्दों मे नही सकता।यात्रा कथा काल्पनिक आंनद देती हैं।सच्चे आंनद के लिये कभी कभी घुमक्कड़ बनना पड़ता है।गंगोत्री मे इतने दिन बीताने के बाद,मन मे ढेर सारी यादें और शांति पाने के बाद कल हम केदारनाथ की ओर बढ़ेगे।

Nuestras vidas han sido bendecidas con darshan desde Gangotri hasta Gomukh. Gomukh es ese lugar desde donde fluye la liberadora Ganges sin cesar, para el bienestar del mundo. Sin embargo, la peregrinación no termina aquí. Delante de Gomukh, hay un lugar muy hermoso y etéreo considerado como el cielo, llamado Tapován. El suelo de Tapován es el hogar de enormes poderes espirituales y decenas de sabios invisibles que viven en aislamiento, comprometidos en una profunda penitencia. El significado de Tapován es “el suelo o la tierra de la penitencia“. Es ese lugar donde incluso una hora de meditación profunda con los ojos cerrados puede conducir a la plenitud y realización de muchos nacimientos. Si bien hay muchos lugares encantadores en la tierra, hay muy pocos lugares hermosos, especialmente elegidos por santos y sabios para perseguir su penitencia y otras prácticas espirituales. Tal lugar desde donde la Madre Ganges, la libertadora, fluye sin cesar por el bienestar del mundo, no puede ser simplemente otro lugar ordinario.

Tapován

Nandanván Tapován es una tierra cubierta por grandes campos de exuberante de hierba verde y la maravillosa diversidad de la naturaleza. Sus exuberantes campos de hierba verde son considerados como los mejores entre los pastizales situados en grandes altitudes. Tapován, ubicado al pie del pico Shiv Ling, es un hogar estacional para muchos sadhus y sabios que viven en cuevas o pequeñas ermitas aquí. En los últimos años, Tapován también se ha convertido en un destino de senderismo muy popular y, además, personas de lugares y tierras lejanos vienen a Tapován para ver y experimentar sus encantadores campos de hierba y los coloridos jardines de flores. Tapován se encuentra a 6 km de Gangotri, al otro lado del glaciar de Gangotri. Desde Tapován, se puede disfrutar de la hermosa vista panorámica de todos los picos cercanos, a saber, Shiv Ling, Bhagirathi, Kedartal, Thalay Sagar y Sudarshan. Tapován sirve como un campamento base ideal para hacer senderismo a algunas de las montañas cercanas, como Satopanth, Kharchakund, Meru, Kalindikhal y Kedartaal. Tomando la ruta al lado del río Bhagirathi, los excursionistas pueden llegar a este destino desde Gomukh, finalmente. En la religión hindú, Tapován es considerado como la tierra o tierra para la penitencia y, como se puede deducir de su nombre, es un lugar muy apto, pacífico y encantador para la penitencia. Esta tierra está repleta de yoguis invisibles, repartidos en todas las direcciones; es tan sobrenatural es este lugar. Si se dice que los Himalayas son el hogar de decenas de yoguis sentados en penitencia y abundan los cuentos, la gente se pregunta sobre este aspecto o tradición de los yoguis que se dice que meditan y realizan austeridades allí de forma aislada. Las personas que escuchan de esto forman su propia percepción o imaginación sobre este fenómeno del que a menudo se habla. Me gustaría decir que Tapován es ese lugar en el Himalaya, donde los yoguis se dedican a la penitencia y se funden en el Señor. Ya sea que llaméis a este lugar mundano u otro mundano, podéis encontrar instancias y ejemplos de estos dos aspectos aquí. Uno puede tener el darshan de Shiv Ling Parvat también, desde aquí.

El Pico Shiv Ling

De entre esta gama de picos montañosos en la región de Gangotri, hoy os contaré de otro encantador pico nevado llamado Pico Shiv Ling de 6,543 metros de altitud. Con un poco de experiencia en senderismo, uno puede ver este pico de cerca. Este pico con un rostro encantador está cerca del glaciar de Gangotri. La belleza de este pico tiene que ser vista para ser entendida y apreciada. Los montañeros que se embarcan en una expedición a este pico tienen que pasar por los hermosos lugares de Gomukh, Tapován y Nandanván. El pico Shiv Ling es uno entre el grupo de montañas Gangotri, con forma de pirámide. La subida a este pico es muy ardua y desafiante. Debido a esto, ninguna expedición a este pico en particular tuvo éxito hasta 1974. Después del descubrimiento del glaciar de Gangotri en 1993, los alpinistas intentaron escalar el pico Shiv Ling. Los alpinistas han declarado que este pico es muy difícil de acceder. Al observar este pico, uno puede ver que su porción superior en cada lado es como una roca erguida sobre la cual ni siquiera puede quedar hielo. Solo en la vertiente occidental, hay algunas porciones sobre las cuales se puede ver hielo y es posible ascender al pico sólo desde su flanco occidental.

Estos enigmáticos picos y montañas no tienen fin y ocultan dentro de ellos muchos misterios al igual que enigmas y muchos acertijos inexplicables. Cuanto más caminamos y nos movemos en medio de ellos, mayor es el número de misterios que encontramos. El terreno y los senderos parecen muy desalentadores cuando los miráis, pero luego, se dice que nada es imposible si uno tiene determinación y coraje en el corazón. Cuando va a esos lugares, vuestra empresa también debe ser muy firme y fuerte. Estos Himalayas albergan muchos lagos, ríos y variedades de raíces y hierbas medicinales. Quien comienza a amarlos se convierte en suyo. Habiendo tenido el darshan de lugares tan hermosos, ahora hemos regresado a Gangotri. No hay palabras para describir la dicha de ese mundo asentado en el regazo de estas montañas. La historia de cualquier peregrinación le proporciona a uno una alegría nocional e imaginaria, pero a veces uno tiene que convertirse en un viajero ávido para experimentar la verdadera alegría y dicha de tales viajes. Después de haber pasado tantos días en Gangotri, recolectando bolsas llenas de recuerdos y paz, nos iremos a Kedarnat mañana.
